In early November of '07 I took my dogs Zoe and Hunter to their favorite dog park in San Francisco. It's a great area just south of Ocean beach in an old fort called Funston. There's a top area where you can walk your dogs and hike around a bit on the sandy cliffs or hang glide. Then there's a path that leads down to the beach. This is a picture of Zoe down on the black sand stained from 56,000 gallons of oil spilling into the San Francisco bay.
This picture was taken a few months to a year after the spill, we assumed it would be cleaned up by then, not even close. I went back yesterday to jog on the beach and it's still a mess two and a half years later. This seems relevant today since the spill in the Gulf is leaking more than 4 times the San Francisco spill every single day.
